About This Guide

Who we are, why we built this, how we curate, and how sponsorship works — everything you should know about the guide before you trust it.

Why we built this

Northwest Arkansas is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. Thousands of families relocate here every year — from across the country and around the world — and when they land, the first question is almost always the same: who do you trust?

There was no good answer. Yelp gives you algorithms. Google gives you ads. Facebook groups give you a hundred opinions and no way to sort the signal from the noise. We built RecommendNWA to be the trusted friend everyone wishes they already had in NWA — someone who knows the region, has done the research, and will tell you straight what's actually worth your time and money.

Every listing on this guide was chosen because a local would genuinely recommend it to a friend who just moved to NWA. That's the whole standard. If something gets in, it earned it.

Our editorial standards

  • No payment for editorial placementA business cannot pay to appear in our curated listings. Editorial picks are made independently — full stop.
  • Sponsored content is clearly labeledWe do offer paid sponsorship spots. Every single one is marked "Sponsored" — readers always know what they're looking at.
  • We review every submissionAnyone can recommend a business. We read every one, research it, and add it only if it meets our standard.
  • We serve the reader firstThis guide is for people who need to find trusted local businesses — not for businesses who want to be found. The reader's trust is what makes this worth anything.
  • We update as NWA growsThis isn't a static directory. We're actively adding businesses, expanding city pages, and responding to community recommendations.

We offer three clearly labeled sponsorship tiers for NWA businesses who want to reach locals and newcomers actively searching for great businesses.

How sponsorship and editorial stay separate: Sponsorship money never influences editorial decisions. A sponsor's business may also appear as an editorial pick — but only if it meets the same standard as every other listing. The sponsored label and the editor's choice label mean different things, and we never mix them up. Readers always know which is which.

Common Questions

For Businesses

Can I pay to be in the editorial listings?

No. Editorial picks are made by our team based on quality, reputation, and local trust. Sponsorship and editorial are completely separate. A sponsored listing never appears as an editor's pick, and an editor's pick was never paid for.

For Businesses

How do I get listed for free?

Submit a recommendation through our recommendation form. Our team reviews every submission. If your business meets our editorial standard, we'll add it — with a real write-up, your website link, and Google Business profile link. No fees, ever.

For Readers

How do I know what's sponsored vs. editorial?

Every sponsored placement is labeled clearly with a gold "Sponsored" badge. Editorial listings use green badges like "Editor's Choice" or "Local Favorite." The difference is always visible — we never blur that line.

For Readers

How do I recommend a business I love?

Use the recommendation form. Tell us what the business does and why locals trust it. The more specific, the better. We read every submission and act on the good ones.
